Our tenants: the heart and soul of our organization
Meet Ricky
For decades, Ricky alternated between the shelter and living on the street, collecting cans to get by. It wasn’t until the winter of 2019, after he fell asleep in a building and got frostbite which resulted in losing three of his toes, when he was ready to accept housing.
He was insistent that he be housed by A Tiny Home for Good. He had developed a relationship with Andrew (executive director) over the years and had seen that the tiny homes were safe, clean, and each dedicated to one tenant.
About a month after moving in, Ricky was visiting the Brady Faith Center. He was mid-conversation with Executive Director Kevin Frank when he suddenly remembered “Oh! I forgot to make my bed!”
A simple, but telling exclamation.
After years of not knowing where he might rest his head at night, Ricky has a bed that’s all his own in a space he takes pride in.
Meet Steve
Steve is one of our long-time tenants at our Bellevue properties.
Despite suffering a stroke, Steve is the kind of neighbor we'd all like to have. He takes pride in his property and is known for his friendly "Hey, buddy!" greeting.
We're proud to be able to offer housing that still meets Steve's needs and are grateful to have him in our community.
Meet Jeanette
Jeanette has been with us since 2019. She moved in with her pup Emmy and wasted no time making this her home. She met her neighbors, she started gardening, and she found work at a local veterinarian clinic.
But Jeanette travelled a long road to arrive where she is today. Jeanette welcomed us into her home to share a bit of her story; how she struggled with opioid addiction after a surgery and slowly lost her job, her home, relationships…everything. But Jeanette is a triumph and fought her way into sobriety, turning her life around.
As Jeanette showed us out, we noticed three bags of topsoil stacked carefully by her fence. "You see that. I don't know who, but someone knew I needed topsoil. And it just showed up. People are so good here."
Meet Dale
If you keep up with our social media posts, you’ll recognize Mr. Dependable as a regular fixture in the day-to-day functions of A Tiny Home for Good. Mr. Dependable is Dale Spicer; tenant, groundskeeper, and the all-around tenacious soul of this organization.
Dale first connected with A Tiny Home for Good when he started showing up to help build the house he was going to move into and continued to dedicate himself to being helpful in any way he could after. As his nickname suggests, he is utterly dependable and always ready to lend a hand especially for the most arduous of tasks.
To our dismay, Dale fell ill toward the end of 2021 and found himself in the hospital for the better part of a month. After some touch and go moments, the doctors figured out the right mix of medicine to get Dale back on track.
Thanks to a team committed to Dale’s long-term aftercare support and the dedication of our staff, A Tiny Home for Good is thrilled and relieved to be able to welcome Dale back to his own refreshed space, ready for whatever this next chapter in his life brings.
